Indonesia - Three years ago Apple was named by Greenpeace as a technology company that "dirty" because it uses environmentally unfriendly energy for data centers (data centers) internet service. Now that conditions have changed , Apple became the leader of innovation "green internet."
According to a recent report by Greenpeace that diterbtkan April 2014, Apple's data center in this year's 100 percent gain points to an index of clean energy (clean energy index) without the use of nuclear energy, coal, and natural gas.Apple gets an A for transparency affairs, policy, and advocacy at the data center, as well as get a B for energy efficiency. Approximately 60 percent of the power used for the Apple data center in North Carolina, is derived from solar power plants and the rest comes from local sources that can be updated.
"Apple's commitment to renewable energy has helped set a new threshold for the industry, describing in very concrete that is 100 percent renewable internet within its range, and provide some intervention model for other companies who want to build a sustainable internet," Greenpeace wrote in his report.
Apple's data center to serve all over the Internet-related products, including the Apple website, the iTunes store multimedia content, store App Store applications and games, until the cloud computing service iCloud.
After Apple, the environmental organizations assess Facebook and Google should fall into the category of Internet companies "green" in 2014. Although, the two companies are still using nuclear energy, coal, and natural gas for its data center (the latest Greenpeace report can be seen here).
Meanwhile, several other major Internet companies can not be called green. Amazon and Twitter listed as the worst offenders Greenpeace version. Likewise with LinkedIn, Zynga, Vimeo, Dropbox, and Pinterest, utilizing still considered "dirty energy".
